BODIES

About Holy Body
Holy Bodies is an ongoing visual photography project that combines ecofeminism and fem gaze photography as a way to uncover the dynamic of oppression we apply upon feminine coded entities.
‘Bodies’ in the title ‘Holy Bodies‘ refers both to the physical human body as well as ecological formations(‘body of rocks’, ‘body of water’).
In Holy Bodies when texts and photograph are combined, the control of the gaze is given to the artist. From the literal gaze (as the words literally guide the audience’s eyes from one word to another, controlling where they look) to the interpretive gaze.
The precise nature of language controls how the audience read the photographs. By labelling two bare legs as ‘holy’ or labelling the female genitalia with the word ‘power’, the audience is robbed of the ability to project and freely interpret the displayed female body.
In this work, the body is often paired and made small compared to the vastness of a natural backdrop as a way to evoke a sense of cosmic smallness within the viewer, encouraging a type of ego-death through existential undertone of the visual poetry.
